Who we are
Only in it's 9th session, UCD Musical Society is one of the youngest and already most active societies on campus, best epitomized by our winning of UCD Society of the Year in 2015 and 2017.
Set up in 2009 by a group of passionate students it has grown from strength to strength each year, catering for any students with a love of musical theatre. Each year we produce three full scale musicals in UCD, two in Semester 1 and one in Semester 2. This year, we are staging the recently broadway revived "She Loves Me" from the 26th to the 28th of September in Astra Hall, the iconic "Spring Awakening" from the 21st to the 25th of November in Astra Hall and the hilarious "Curtains" from the 6-10th of March in Astra Hall!
Last year we staged three hugely successful musicals - The Last Five Years in September, Parade in November and In The Heights in February. We were delighted to receive two AIMS nominations for Parade - Best Leading Female (Derry Mae Keeling) and Best Supporting Actor (Colin Gilligan), and two nominations as well for In The Heights - Best Female Singer (Caoilfhionn Ní Dhulaing) and Best Choreography. In previous years, we have also performed Legally Blonde, Jekyll & Hyde, Bonnie & Clyde, A Chorus Line, The Producers, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Grease, Cabaret, Little Shop of Horrors and The Wedding Singer, each receiving outstanding reviews and attendance.
We run a weekly Vocal Group from 6-8 every Monday evening where members can come along, sing and perform to their hearts content. The Vocal Group performs throughout the year with UCD Musical Society, with the highlight being the Vocal Group Showcase in Semester Two. Vocal Group is open to absolutely every member and requires no audition to take part.
We hold regular workshops in many different areas of theatre be it the production side or performance side to give our members a chance to improve their skills and share their talents. We also provide workshop opportunities to schools in the area, imparting our experience upon the next generation of the country’s musical talent. The social side of UCD Musical Society is great fun and a fantastic way to make new friends. We hold regular events throughout the year such as our hugely popular open-mic nights, the annual Performing Arts Ball, cast parties, trips around the country, nights out and much more.
Renowned for our welcoming, inclusive and friendly reputation we are always eager for new members to become involved be it on or behind the stage.
The Committee consists of 21 students who are selected by the incoming auditor at the end of each year, who work together to ensure the smooth running of the society and its events. Each committee member has specific roles and duties which they carry out to give the best possible experience to all of our members. Don't hesitate to get in contact with any one of us, should you have any queries or ideas for the upcoming year. You can catch us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or just drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
